As of September 1, 2021, a new Texas abortion restriction law (SB 8) is in effect that limits our ability to provide abortions at our health centers. Planned Parenthood, along with other organizations committed to protecting your access to abortion, are now in court to challenge this extreme law. As that litigation process plays out, we will update this page with any news or changes to access to abortion that could impact you.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a new abortion ban into law

Sometimes referred to as the “heartbeat bill,” SB 8 is one of the most extreme abortion bans in the U.S. bans abortion in Texas at approximately six weeks — before most people even know they’re pregnant — with no exceptions for rape, sexual abuse, incest, and fetal anomaly diagnoses. For people with a regular menstrual cycle, that’s just two weeks after a missed period.

Abortion is still safe and legal throughout Texas and in all 50 states. Our health centers are open for patients to get the care they need, including medication and surgical abortion. Texas’ new abortion ban (SB 8) went into effect September 1, 2021, but we are now in court to challenge this extreme law.

El gobernador de Texas Greg Abbott sancionó de manera expresa la ley que prohíbe el aborto.

A veces llamado el “proyecto de ley del latido”, el SB 8 es una de las prohibiciones del aborto más extremas en los EE. UU. Prohibiría el aborto en Texas aproximadamente a las seis semanas (antes de que la mayoría de gente incluso sepa que está embarazada) sin excepciones por violación, abuso sexual, incesto y diagnósticos de anomalías en el feto.
