If you experience an unplanned pregnancy, you may consider the option of having an abortion. Abortion is legal in the U.S. and is one of medicine's safest procedures.

We're Here

We're here to give you the medically-accurate information you need to decide what is best for you. If you are considering abortion a health care professional at Planned Parenthood will:

  • Discuss all options concerning pregnancy
  • Answer any questions you may have
  • Explain abortion procedures and discuss possible risks
  • Discuss birth control methods

People who choose or are considering abortion may feel a range of emotions. We encourage you to talk to a trusted family member, partner, friend or mentor about your decision.

Parental Notification of Abortion Law

Illinois law requires Planned Parenthood of Illinois to notify a parent or adult family member if a woman age 17 or younger seeks an abortion, unless a judge gives a waiver. The adult family member does not have to give permission for the minor to have an abortion, but an adult family member must be notified.
